I just went to download some ts2 content hosted on Mediafire and had a completely terrifying experience where one of their evil fucking pop-up tabs.
It generated a warning dialogue claiming that I had spyware on my computer, which could not be closed. Then, a super loud robot voice started blaring through my speakers that my computer had spyware on it and I had to call a toll-free number to have it removed. Seriously, my speakers are at less than half volume and that was still so unbelievably loud. It kept repeating and I STILL couldn’t click away. I couldn’t close the tab, or chrome itself, I couldn’t alt+tab to any other program. The only thing that made it stop was bringing up the task manager and going through the dozen or so instances of chrome.exe under Processes and ending each one them until I finally ended the right one and killed the tab.
I have three different levels of adblocker on my browser and five different anti-malware programs that I run on the regular so it’s not like I’m cruising around on the internet unprotected against this sort of thing. Mediafire has always been a little bit sketchy but it seems like they cranked that shit up to eleven recently. I really don’t think it’s a safe site to keep using for file hosting, guys. :(
Hey guys so I’ll posting all new content on a new service , possibly onedrive , all old content will stay where it is on mediafire :)
I’ll be using only dropbox from now on guys. D:
Time to make a dropbox account, won’t be using mediafire again!
